"unit 1- laying the foundations for safe child care practice" - click here for more details the open learning foundation is an educational charity (number: 1000055) originally funded through membership subscriptions from higher education institutions. we have adapted to changes in learning and we do so again by now providing an open educational resource of learning materials in business studies; social work & social care; and health and nursing. our completely new approach aims to provide materials directly to those who will wish to use them for their own learning or for assisting others in their learning. our new website and the ways of accessing materials through this website and resource has been provided in partnership with capdm capdm have great experience in new ways of global online and distance learning has greatly enhanced our new approach. our new approach… the aim of the olf “to promote and provide for the advancement of higher and further education for the public benefit and, in particular, but without prejudice to the generality of the foregoing, to develop and provide for and to promote the obtaining of diplomas, certificates and other distinctions and qualifications whether by attendance at polytechnic, higher education corporations and other institutions providing higher and further education within or outside the united kingdom or otherwise.” the olf supported this aim with a variety of activities, but efforts centred on the provision of open or distance learning materials for the use of member institutions and their staff, particularly trying to encourage and help members’ staff to develop a more flexible approach to their teaching and learning strategies. these materials are for use in post 16 years education including foundation, undergraduate, postgraduate and short courses and have been used in traditional taught, online and e-learning programmes. read more… a short history the open learning foundation was established in the 1970’s as the open polytechnic foundation but the name was changed to the open learning foundation by special resolution on 9th december 1991. the articles of association and objectives set out for the charity commission, remained the same essentially. the foundation originally had as members some 25 institutions that became universities in 1990. members’ annual subscriptions provided learning materials originally in print form, then cds, then online word documents -
